About
MaMa's Dream
MaMa’s Dream helps eligible single mothers in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia build a new future for their families. At MaMa's Dream, we support single moms who are pursuing a post-secondary education, including associate’s degrees, bachelor’s degrees, and certificate programs. We also make referrals to additional services to help with other needs, and offer developmental programs to improve their financial position.

If you are looking to complete your education, MaMa's Dream can help. Our goal is to ease the financial burden of single mothers wanting to improve the quality of life for themselves and for their family.

MaMa's Dream creates life-changing opportunities for families by empowering single moms to pursue their education, increase their income, and raise the standard of living for themselves and their families. Their achievement, in turn, shapes the educational goals and career aspirations of the next generation. With access to education, MaMa's Dream opens the window of possibilities for the entire family.

The Scholarship's History
MaMa's Dreams was founded on May 30, 2020 by the children and grandchildren of the late Annette Marie Townes. Annette, lovingly known as “Mama,” was a single mother of four, who continually made sacrifices, including her own dreams of going back to school, so that her children could receive the best education and opportunities possible.
As we reflected over her life, we realized that she was not alone in her sacrifice--only 31% of single mothers have a college degree, compared to 54% of married mothers. Therefore, Mama’s Dream was established to give single mothers in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia (DMV) the opportunity to complete their education to improve the quality of life for them and their children.
We believe all women can embrace who they are,
define their future, and change the world.
Our Mission
Provide scholarships to single mothers in the DMV to continue their education.
Our Vision
To create generational access to economic achievement by providing access to higher education for single mothers in the DMV.
About MaMa
Annette “MaMa” Townes was born September 29, 1939, and she transitioned from this life into eternity to be present with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 18, 2020.
MaMa was a strong, loving, and devoted single mother, who raised four children: Peter A. Townes, Bjorn A. Townes, Meri E. Robinson, and Jeremiah A. Townes. In addition to her children’s lives, she impacted numerous lives through her dedication to the church and her community. She served as the secretary and board member for Erika’s Fun Club, Inc. for over 10 years, where she impacted the lives of many families through monthly Bible studies, volunteering adventures and trips to fun places like Disneyland, Holy Land USA and the Bahamas. She also proudly served as the minister of transportation for YACC, making sure anyone who wanted to come could-- no matter how far. Throughout her life, MaMa modeled the life of true servitude to others.
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
